How Grok decides which brands to recommend
Not tracked
Attensira does not track Grok. xAI documents two search tools for it, web search and X search, but not how it ranks what they find. This guide covers what is documented and what a brand can do: be on the pages and posts Grok would find for your buyers' questions.

The answer at the top is Perplexity's, on 3 October 2026: its robots.txt template blocks a user agent called xAI-Bot. The xAI page we read for this guide, beside this, describes Grok's two search tools and names no crawler, so look for that token in your own logs before you write a rule for it.
- Web search
- Searches the web in real time and browses pages
- X search
- A separate tool for searching X
- Ranking
- Not published
What does Grok draw on when it answers?
Grok is xAI's assistant. It can search the web in real time and, unlike most assistants, search posts on X as well.
What that means for a brand is narrower than most guides claim. xAI does not publish how it ranks sources, so the honest advice is the same as for any engine that searches: be on the pages it would find for your buyers' questions, and be present on X if your buyers are.
In short
- Web pages found by its web search tool
- Searches in real time for current questions
- Draws on posts on X as well as the web
How do you get cited by Grok?
Four things to check on your own pages, from how Grok picks sources above. None of them is a measured result.
Why does Grok matter for your brand?
- xAI documents its search tools but not how it ranks results, so the lever is being on the pages and posts it would find.
- Its X search tool makes posts on X a place your buyers can meet you in an answer.
- 01
Make sure the pages that answer your buyers' questions are crawlable and plain.
- 02
If your buyers are on X, post the facts there that you want repeated.
- 03
Publish the facts buyers compare on (price, limits, who it is for) in plain text.
- 04
Spend your effort first on the engines your buyers use most.
How do you check what Grok says about you?
By hand, the same way every week. One reading proves little, because answers vary from one asking to the next; the pattern over several weeks is what counts. Record the sources Grok shows as well as whether you are named. If they are the roundups and threads the engines we read cite, work there reaches Grok too.
- 01
Questions
The five questions a buyer asks before buying in your category.
- 02
Ask
Each one in a fresh Grok conversation, so an earlier answer does not colour the next.
- 03
Record
Named or not, who is named instead, and the pages and X posts it shows as sources.
- 04
Compare
Set those sources beside the ones ChatGPT and Perplexity cite for the same questions.
