What does Amazon say about Rufus?

The answer at the top is ChatGPT's list of AI crawlers, on 3 October 2026, which names three Amazon agents. Amazon's own page, beside this, says its shopping assistant answers from the catalogue, customer reviews and community Q&A. For a seller, the listing and its reviews matter more than any crawler rule.

What does Amazon Rufus draw on when it answers?

Rufus was Amazon's shopping assistant, and Amazon renamed it Alexa for Shopping on 13 May 2026. Amazon describes it as trained on Amazon's product catalogue and information from across the web, and answering from the catalogue, customer reviews and community questions and answers.

So for a seller, almost everything it can say about your product comes from your listing and what customers wrote about it. The listing is the page to work on: the title, the bullets, the description, the questions answered, and the reviews.

What it leans on

  • Amazon's product catalogue: titles, bullets, descriptions
  • Customer reviews
  • Community questions and answers
  • Information from across the web

Why does Amazon Rufus matter for your brand?

  • It answers at the point of purchase, inside Amazon.
  • Its sources are your listing and your reviews, which you can work on.

What should a seller fix first in a listing?

The questions shoppers already ask. The open questions on a listing, and the questions answered in its reviews, are the clearest record of what buyers want to know before they buy, and they are among the sources Amazon names. A listing that answers them in its own bullets gives the assistant a direct answer to repeat.

Then the facts that comparisons turn on: size, materials, compatibility, what is in the box, who it is for and who it is not for. A shopper comparing two products side by side is asking for exactly those, and an assistant can only compare what the listings state. Last, keep the product described the same way on Amazon and on your own site, so the web information Amazon also draws on agrees with the listing.

How do you check what the assistant says about your product?

From the shopper's side. Open your own listing in the Amazon app and ask the assistant the questions shoppers ask about it: will it fit, how does it compare, what is in the box. Match each statement to the bullet, review or community answer it came from, and fix the one that is wrong or missing.
