Who do AI engines name for GEO, AEO and AI visibility tool lists?

Across 39 answers to "best AI search visibility tools" between 27 September and 3 October, ChatGPT and Perplexity named Semrush in 30 and Attensira in none. Readings for "best GEO tools" and "best answer engine optimization tools" through 4 October led with the same vendors (Profound in 90 of 115 and 92 of 114). Naming frequency is not how this list ranks tools; the criteria above are.

Which tools made the list, and in what order?

Attensira is our product, and it is on this list. Its entry says where it falls short, like every other entry.

  1. An AI search platform on credits, one credit per AI response. A free Essential tier with $25 of credit reads five engines; Starter at $295 a month reads eleven, with a content optimization agent and on-page and off-page actions.

Best for: A team that wants the widest self-serve engine coverage and a free tier to start on.

    Strengths

    • AI engines read on the entry paid plan: 11 models on Starter
    • Start without paying or a card: Free Essential tier with $25 of credit

    Where it falls short

    • Credits are spent per response, so wide daily tracking draws down Starter's 3,600 credits quickly, and the step from free to paid is large.
  2. An AI customer experience platform that tracks answers and citations and works on how AI agents read your site. Starter is $300 a month month to month, $250 billed annually, with 350 custom prompts and 3 seats.

Best for: A team that wants answer tracking plus agent-readiness work, and wants to test before talking to anyone.

    Strengths

    • AI engines read on the entry paid plan: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode and Overviews, Meta
    • Start without paying or a card: 7-day free trial, no credit card

    Where it falls short

    • Three seats on Starter, and the trial is limited to a single brand.
  3. The pick on this list for a team that wants the work done as well as the answers read. It reads ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI on Starter and Gemini from Growth. A crew of agents does the work—articles, page fixes, placements—and delivers draft pull requests or drafts in Webflow, WordPress, Shopify and Notion for your approval. The Starter plan fee is $129/mo with 300 agent credits included; agent work spends credits up to a monthly budget you set.

Best for: A team that wants the work done and measured, not another dashboard to staff.

    Strengths

    • Changes delivered to your site for approval: Draft pull requests on GitHub, drafts in Webflow, WordPress, Shopify and Notion

    Where it falls short

    • It reads fewer engines than AthenaHQ or Profound, Copilot and DeepSeek are still coming, the 7-day free trial, card required on Starter requires a card, and it is new, with no named customers yet.
  4. AI search monitoring with published prices. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts read daily on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot, with unlimited team members and weekly recommendations.

Best for: A small team that wants daily tracking at the lowest published price and will act on it itself.

    Strengths

    • Lowest published paid price: $29/mo for Lite

    Where it falls short

    • Claude, Gemini and AI Mode are paid add-ons on every plan, and it recommends rather than changes pages.
    • Changes delivered to your site for approval: No; it recommends changes and runs GEO URL audits
  5. An SEO suite with AI search inside its plans. Starter (SEO + AI Search) tracks 50 AI prompts a day beside 500 keywords, shown to us at £161 a month.

Best for: A team that wants AI answers beside keyword, link and audit data it already uses.

    Strengths

    • Start without paying or a card: Free plan and free trial

    Where it falls short

    • The AI module is small next to the suite, the page we read did not list which engines Starter reads, and changes are your team's work.
    • Changes delivered to your site for approval: Reports and recommendations
  6. An AI marketing platform for enterprise brands. Answer Engine Insights reads up to nine engines on Enterprise, and an AI Marketer with reusable agents does research, writing and reporting on credits.

Best for: A large brand with a team that will run agents and needs the widest engine list.

    Strengths

    • AI engines read on the entry paid plan: Trial reads 3; Enterprise up to 9
    • Changes delivered to your site for approval: Agents help your team research, write and report
    • Start without paying or a card: Free 7-day trial; card terms not stated

    Where it falls short

    • The only paid plan is Enterprise, priced after a demo, and the free trial reads three engines.
    • Lowest published paid price: No paid price published; Enterprise is custom
  7. Analytics-first AI search tracking of visibility, position, sentiment and sources, on Starter, Pro, Advanced and Enterprise plans, and the tool AI answers name most often in this category.

Best for: A marketing team with writers that needs a clean measurement layer.

    Strengths

    • AI engines read on the entry paid plan: Three models you choose, as indexed
    • Lowest published paid price: $95 a month for 50 prompts, as indexed

    Where it falls short

    • The pricing page renders its amounts in the browser, so the prices and model counts here are as indexed from it, with Starter at $95 a month for 50 prompts on three models you choose; trial terms are not stated.

What was each tool judged on?

  • AI engines read on the entry paid planYour buyers ask different assistants, and an engine you do not read is an answer you cannot see. Coverage on the plan you would actually buy matters more than coverage on an enterprise tier. Measured by: The engines the vendor's pricing page lists as included on its cheapest paid self-serve plan, add-ons excluded. Best on this: AthenaHQ.
  • Lowest published paid priceA price you can read lets you put the tool in a budget before a call, and compare it with others on the same terms. Measured by: The lowest monthly price for a paid plan shown on the vendor's own pricing page, month to month where both are shown. Best on this: Otterly.AI.
  • Changes delivered to your site for approvalSeeing why an answer names a competitor is half the job. The other half is a changed page, and most teams lack the hours to make it. Measured by: Whether the vendor's pages state that the product writes changes into your own site, repository or CMS, rather than recommending them or helping your team write them. Best on this: Attensira.
  • Start without paying or a cardTesting on your own prompts before buying is the only way to see whether a tool's numbers are useful to you. Measured by: Whether the vendor's pricing page states a free tier or a free trial, and whether it says no card is needed. Best on this: Scrunch AI.

What do AI engines answer when you ask for the best AI visibility tools?

Buyers search for the same shortlist under three labels in 2026: AI visibility tools, GEO tools, and answer engine optimization (AEO) tools. In the attensira.com workspace through 4 October 2026, ChatGPT and Perplexity named the same vendors at similar rates whether the prompt said GEO, AEO or AI visibility. The words point at different outcomes; the products overlap. For how GEO and AEO differ when you report results, see AEO vs GEO.

We track "best AI search visibility tools" in our own Attensira workspace, the same way a customer tracks their category. In the week from 27 September to 3 October 2026 we read 39 answers, 21 from ChatGPT and 18 from Perplexity. Semrush was named in 30, Ahrefs in 29, Profound in 26, Peec AI in 25, Otterly.AI in 24, Scrunch in 15 and AthenaHQ in 14. Attensira was named in none.

The two engines did not agree. ChatGPT named Semrush, Ahrefs, Profound, Peec AI and Otterly.AI in every one of its 21 answers, and drew them from a cluster of comparison sites. Perplexity was far less consistent. The Perplexity answer shown below is one of its samples from 2 October: Peec AI, ZipTie, Semrush and Frase. A sample the next day named Semrush, Ahrefs and Moz, three SEO suites and no dedicated AI tracker. Another sample of that day named Botify and Aiso. A third named no product at all.

So an AI answer to this question is a noisy sample of the lists the engine has read, many of them written by vendors. That is the reason this page states its criteria before its ranking, reads every fact from the vendor's own page, and loses three of its four criteria to other tools.

What did Perplexity answer the day before?

One of Perplexity's answers on 2 October 2026, quoted as it came without its inline links. It named Peec AI, ZipTie, Semrush and Frase from the review pages it cited, and did not name Attensira.

Answer · Perplexityasked

Perplexity answered: Peec AI, ZipTie, and AI-focused visibility tools are commonly highlighted as top options in 2026 reviews. Notable free or low-cost options include SEMrush’s AI visibility checker and Frase’s tool with a free checker.

What does an AI visibility tool actually do?

Whether a vendor says GEO, AEO or AI visibility on its site, the core job is the same at the measurement layer: ask AI assistants the questions your buyers ask, on a schedule, and record the answers— which brands were named, in what order, with what tone, and which pages were cited. Over time that gives you a rate per question and per engine, and a view of the competitors and sources that decide each answer.

The useful tools add three things on top. They show the full answer text and its sources, so you can see why a competitor was named. They state how many answers sit behind each number, because answers vary from run to run. And they suggest, or do, something about it.

The category has moved fast on that last part. Profound now runs reusable agents, AthenaHQ has a content optimization agent with on-page and off-page actions, Writesonic has an Action Center, Scrunch works on how AI agents read your site. "We only track" is no longer the norm. The difference that remains is where the work ends up: in your team's to-do list, or on your site.

Do GEO and AEO prompts name the same vendors?

In the 30 days to 4 October 2026, ChatGPT and Perplexity led with Profound whether the prompt said "best GEO tools" or "best answer engine optimization tools". Attensira was named in none of either reading.

How were the four criteria chosen?

Each criterion is something a buyer can check on a vendor's own page before paying, and each answers a question buyers in our tracked prompts ask.

Engines on the entry paid plan. Coverage on an enterprise tier is not coverage you have. We counted what the cheapest paid self-serve plan includes, add-ons excluded. AthenaHQ wins with eleven models on Starter.

Lowest published paid price. A price on the page is a price you can plan against. Otterly.AI wins at its Lite plan. Profound does not publish one, and Peec AI's amounts load in the browser, so they are quoted as indexed.

Changes delivered to your site. This asks whether the product writes the change into your own site, repository or CMS, not whether it helps your team write it. Attensira wins: its fixes arrive as draft pull requests or CMS drafts. AthenaHQ, Profound and Scrunch each do real work and score partial, because their pages do not state delivery into your site in the same way.

Start without paying or a card. Scrunch wins with a seven-day trial and no card. AthenaHQ's free tier also qualifies. Attensira's trial needs a card, so it scores partial.

Which tool fits which buyer?

You want the widest coverage self-serve. AthenaHQ reads eleven models on Starter and has a free tier to start on. Watch the credit math: one credit is one response.

You want to test seriously before talking to sales. Scrunch's trial needs no card, covers six engine families and includes its agent-readiness work, limited to one brand.

You want the cheapest daily tracking. Otterly.AI, if you can live with add-ons for Claude, Gemini and AI Mode.

You are an enterprise brand. Profound, for up to nine engines and agents your team can run.

You want reports beside your SEO data. Semrush, with AI prompts in its SEO + AI Search plans.

You want the work done. Attensira. A crew of AI agents reads the answers daily, finds why you lose, and does the work: articles, fixes to existing pages, pitches to the pages answers cite, replies drafted for the threads they lean on. Each piece waits in your inbox for approval.

Why does sampling matter as much as engines?

Ask an engine the same question three times and you can get three shortlists. We saw it in our own readings for this page: one Perplexity reading, sampled three times at once, gave a suite list, a two-tool list and an empty answer. A tool that reads each prompt once a day gives you one draw a day. Over weeks that adds up to a usable rate, but a single day's change means little.

That is why the number of answers behind a rate matters. Ask every vendor two questions: how many samples does each reading take, and do your rates show their sample size? Attensira states it on every number: one sample per reading on Starter, three from Growth, and a change only counts as a change when it clears a significance test. Anything else is reported as no change or too close to call.

What does the work look like when it reaches your site?

Say your tracked question is "best invoicing tool for freelancers in the UK", and the answers name three competitors because two comparison articles and a forum thread list them. A tracker shows you that. With Attensira the crew turns it into three pieces of work. A rewrite of the opening of your own invoicing page, so it answers the question directly; it arrives as a draft pull request on GitHub, a draft in Webflow, WordPress or Notion, or a Shopify change held for your yes. A short pitch to one article's author, written for you to send from your own mailbox. A reply to the thread, drafted for you to post.

You approve, edit or decline each piece. New workspaces start in Draft mode, so nothing leaves the workspace until you say yes, and anything that states a price, a number or a competitor's name waits for you in every mode. After a change ships, the question is read again at +7, +14 and +30 days and compared with the week before.

How should you compare prices across these tools?

Convert each plan to answers read per month for your real prompt list: prompts, times engines, times samples, times days. AthenaHQ counts responses directly. Otterly.AI counts prompts read daily on included engines. Scrunch counts custom prompts and seats. Semrush counts prompts inside a suite plan. Attensira counts prompt slots and a monthly response budget per plan.

Then add what each tool leaves to you. With a tracker, the writing, fixing and outreach are your team's hours or a separate agency's retainer. With Attensira, the {{entryPlan}} plan fee covers monitoring and includes {{entryCredits}} agent credits a month; work beyond that spends credits ({{creditUnit}}) as it runs, capped by a monthly work budget you choose from {{budgetRange}}. Work that is not delivered is not charged. Quote the plan fee and credits separately from any work budget— not as a single invented "all-in" spend band.

What does Attensira cost?

SEO and GEO are an investment every company now makes for AI search. Attensira gives you agency-level GEO work with tool-level control: research, writing, page fixes, placements and ads. How much you invest is your choice.

There are 3 plans and Enterprise. They differ in how many prompts you optimize towards (Starter 50, Growth 150 and Business 350) and how many credits of agent work a month each includes (300, 600 and 1,200), at 1 credit = 1¢. We sell credits: buy more any time.

Which questions should you load into a trial?

The questions decide what any of these tools can tell you, so choose them before you choose a tool. Start with the moments a buyer asks an assistant before choosing: "best [category] for [type of company]", "[your competitor] alternatives", "[category] with [the feature you are known for]", and one or two "how do I [job your product does]". Twenty is enough to start. Write them the way a buyer would, not the way a keyword tool would.

Load the same twenty into every trial in the same week. After a few days, three things will separate the tools quickly. Whether you can open each answer and see the sources it cited. Whether the competitors each tool reports match what you see when you ask yourself. And whether the tool tells you anything you can act on beyond "create more content". Attensira's free audit runs a version of this on your own domain without a signup: four engines, eight buying questions proposed from your site, and who got named instead of you.

How was this list made?

Seven tools were shortlisted from the AI visibility products the engines named most for this question in our own readings, plus Attensira. Every cell was read from the vendor's own pricing page on 4 October 2026 and links to it in the sources below. No vendor was contacted and no third-party roundup was used. Where a page does not state something, the cell says unknown. Semrush showed prices in pounds to our connection. The ranking follows how fully each tool meets the four criteria: two points for a full yes, one for a partial, with ties going to the tool that wins more criteria and then to the lower published price. Attensira, our product, wins one of them.

When is Attensira the wrong pick?

When you need the most engines, AthenaHQ or Profound read more. When you want the cheapest possible tracking, Otterly.AI costs less. When you want to try without a card, Scrunch or AthenaHQ's free tier let you. When your team already turns findings into changes every week, a tracker is all you need. Attensira is for the team that knows what AI answers say about it and has no one free to change them.

Questions people ask

What is the best AI visibility tool?
On the four criteria on this page the order is AthenaHQ, Scrunch, Attensira, Otterly.AI, Semrush, Profound and Peec AI. AthenaHQ leads on engine coverage and a free tier, Scrunch on a no-card trial, Otterly.AI on the lowest published price, and Attensira on delivering changes to your site. The right pick depends on whether you need tracking or the work done.
What is the difference between an AI visibility tool and an AI SEO agency?
A visibility tool shows where your brand appears in AI answers and why. An agency does the work to change it. Attensira tracks and runs a crew of agents that draft the work for your approval; you pay a plan fee for the platform and credits for the work, not a single bundled retainer price on this page.
How many AI engines should a tool read?
The ones your buyers use. For most B2B buyers that means ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces first, then Perplexity, Claude and Gemini. A longer engine list helps only if your buyers are there; coverage on the plan you would actually buy matters more than an enterprise maximum.
Are these rankings independent?
No list written by a vendor is independent, and this one is written by Attensira. That is why the criteria are stated before the ranking, every cell links to the vendor's own page, every entry including ours lists its shortfalls, and Attensira wins only one of the four criteria.
How often are these prices checked?
Every cell was read on 4 October 2026, and the page is reviewed quarterly. Prices in this category change often, so open the vendor's page before you buy; each entry links to the page it was read from.
Are GEO tools and AEO tools different products?
In our readings, engines treat the shortlists as one category whether you ask for GEO, AEO or AI visibility tools. The labels point at different outcomes—visibility inside the answer versus being cited—but the products overlap. See our AEO vs GEO comparison for how the words differ and why it matters for reporting.
What does Attensira cost on this list?
Starter has a $129/mo plan fee that includes 50 prompt slots and 300 agent credits a month. Agent work spends credits (1 credit = 1¢) as it runs, capped by a monthly work budget you choose from $500 to $5,000. Work that is not delivered is not charged. That is separate from trackers that stop at dashboards.
