**In short:** Entity SEO is the work of making search engines and AI models recognise your brand as one specific real-world thing, a company with a name, location, products and people, and connect every mention of it to that thing. It relies on consistent facts across your site, structured data with sameAs links, and independent profiles that say the same.

**ChatGPT, asked 2026-10-04:** "Attensira vs Profound"

> Attensira's biggest differentiator is closing the loop: it doesn't just tell you that your visibility is poor; it can create the content/fix and open a PR for you to review. … One caveat: the comparison information I found is partly published by Attensira itself, so its claims about its own advantages should be treated accordingly.

Attensira: named.

## What happens when an engine has to work out which company you are?

It assembles you from whatever describes you, and says how far it trusts each piece. We track "Attensira vs Profound" for attensira.com. The engines name Attensira in almost every answer to it ([AI visibility score](/glossary/ai-visibility-score) has the count), so they know the entity exists. What they say about it is the entity question.

ChatGPT's answer of 4 October 2026, read over the Attensira MCP and shown at the top of this page, cited one source: attensira.com. It then added a caveat of its own, that the comparison it found was partly published by Attensira itself and should be treated accordingly. That is an engine noticing that one entity is the only voice describing itself. Perplexity drew on a wider set, led by software directories, and placed us in Estonia, founded 2025, "per some comparison sources".

Both behaviours point at the same work. Your own site states the facts; independent profiles repeat them; the engine checks one against the other. Where only your site speaks, the answer comes with a warning. Where the profiles disagree with your site, the engine has to pick. When it cannot place a name at all, it may merge you with something else; [AI hallucination](/glossary/ai-hallucination) shows that failure on our own brand.

## What is entity SEO?

Search engines and AI models increasingly think in entities: things with attributes and relationships, not strings of text. Attensira the company is an entity with a legal name, a country, a founder, a product category and a website. Entity SEO is making sure engines:

1. **recognise** that your brand name refers to that entity, not to something else with a similar name;

1. **attach** the right facts to it, such as what you sell, where you are and who runs you;

1. **connect** mentions of you across the web back to it.

Google's [Knowledge Graph](/glossary/knowledge-graph) is the best-known store of entities; a [knowledge panel](/glossary/knowledge-panel) is how it shows one. AI models hold their own learned picture of entities and supplement it with what they retrieve.

## How do you do entity SEO?

- **State the facts in text.** Legal name, country, founding year, what you do and for whom, on your About page and in your footer. Engines read text before markup.

- **Add Organization structured data.** Google's [Organization documentation](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/structured-data/organization) lists no required properties and recommends adding as many relevant ones as apply: name, URL, logo, address, contact points. See [schema markup](/glossary/schema-markup).

- **Use sameAs.** List the URLs of profiles elsewhere that are about the same entity: LinkedIn, Wikidata, Crunchbase, GitHub. This is the property that ties your site to the rest of the web.

- **Make the profiles agree.** The same name, description and facts on every profile. Contradictions make an entity fuzzier, not stronger.

- **Disambiguate on purpose.** If your name collides with something else, say what you are in the sentence that names you: "Attensira, the AI SEO platform", not just "Attensira".

## Which pages did Perplexity lean on to tell the two apart?

Directories more than either company. Over 30 days, sourceforge.net edged out our own site in Perplexity's citations for this question, and slashdot.org and topbusinesssoftware.com followed. Perplexity took our country and founding year from comparison sources like these, so they have to agree with what attensira.com says.

## Why does entity SEO matter for AI answers?

Because an AI model has to decide what your name refers to before it can say anything about you. When the evidence is thin or conflicting, it guesses, merges two things, hedges, or declines; the ChatGPT caveat above is the hedge. A clear entity reduces all three. It also helps engines tell a correct but stale fact from a [hallucination](/glossary/ai-hallucination): with one consistent set of facts, there is one thing to repeat.

Schema.org, the vocabulary structured data is written in, keeps evolving; it reached version 30.0 in March 2026. Markup written years ago may use outdated terms, so check it when you update your entity facts.

## What are the objections to entity SEO?

**"Only big brands need entity SEO."** New brands need it most. Big brands are already well documented; a new name is easy to confuse.

**"Schema markup will fix it."** Markup describes what your pages say. Independent profiles and consistent text carry as much weight.

**"We can't change other sites."** You can claim and complete your own profiles, correct listings and ask for corrections. That is most of the work.

**"A name collision is permanent."** It is reduced by volume and consistency of evidence. Each clear, independent description of you tips the balance.

## How does Attensira help?

Attensira stores every answer engines give about your brand verbatim, with its sources, and checks the factual claims in them against the facts you confirm, so confusion and wrong facts are visible. The crew then makes your entity facts consistent on your site, in your structured data and across the profiles engines cite, each change after your approval. The [free audit](/audit) is a quick way to see whether engines already confuse you with something else, and [off-site work](/features/off-site) covers how the crew gets the independent profiles to agree.

## FAQ

### What is entity SEO?

It is optimising so search engines and AI models know exactly which real-world thing your brand is and attach the right facts to it. It treats your company as an entity, with a name, location, founders, products and profiles, rather than as a keyword to rank for.

### What is an entity, as opposed to a keyword?

An entity is a thing: a company, person, product or place, with attributes and relations. A keyword is a string of text. 'Apple' the keyword is ambiguous; Apple the company and apple the fruit are two entities. Entity SEO removes that ambiguity for your brand.

### Which markup property actually does the reconciliation?

sameAs. In Organization structured data it lists URLs of pages elsewhere that are about the same entity, such as your LinkedIn, Wikidata or Crunchbase profiles. Google defines sameAs as a URL to a page on another website with additional information about the organization.

### Does Google require structured data to understand an organization?

No. Google lists no required properties for Organization structured data and recommends adding as many relevant properties as apply. Markup helps, but engines also learn entities from your page text and from independent sources.

### Does entity work help with AI assistants, or only with search?

Both. When ChatGPT compared Attensira with Profound on 4 October 2026, it warned that the comparison it found was partly published by Attensira itself. Engines weigh who says a fact. Consistent facts on your site and on independent profiles give them a second voice to check against.
