**In short:** To track ChatGPT citations, Otterly.AI includes ChatGPT on its cheapest published plan, Scrunch reports the pages answers cite, AthenaHQ reads ChatGPT on a free tier, and Profound and Ahrefs Brand Radar track it at depth. Attensira reads chatgpt.com the way a person does, states the sample size on every rate, and does the work to get you cited.

## Who do AI engines name for a ChatGPT rank tracker?

Rankscale, in three answers of four, then Semrush a long way back. We started tracking this question on 30 September, so this is a first look on 24 answers, not a settled ranking. Attensira is not named.

| Name | Mention rate · count of 24 answers |
| --- | --- |
| Rankscale | 18 |
| Semrush | 4 |
| AIclicks | 3 |
| SE Ranking | 1 |
| Attensira | 0 |

### What does ChatGPT say when you ask whether it mentions your brand?

We track "check if ChatGPT mentions my brand" in our own workspace. On 3 October 2026, ChatGPT answered it three times in one reading. Each time it offered to check if you gave it your brand name, and pointed to dedicated tools, naming Ahrefs' AI Visibility Checker and RankSurf's ChatGPT visibility scanner. One answer added a line worth repeating: a single ChatGPT query is not a reliable measure, because answers can vary between runs. Attensira was not named.

That is the whole case for a tracking tool in one sentence from the product itself. Asking ChatGPT once tells you what one draw said. Tracking tells you how often you are named, and cited, across many draws, and whether that is changing.

### What exactly should you track in ChatGPT?

Three things, and most tools track at least two.

**Mentions.** Is your brand named in the answer, and where in the list? A brand named fifth in a list of eight is in a different position from one named first.

**Citations.** Which pages does the answer link to as sources? ChatGPT names brands because of what those pages say. When you are not named, the cited pages are where the work is.

**The answer itself.** What is said about you: the price, the features, who you are for. Wrong facts in ChatGPT's answers are common and are often the quickest thing to fix, because they usually come from one outdated page.

### How were the four criteria chosen?

**ChatGPT on the cheapest plan.** Otterly.AI wins: ChatGPT is on Lite, the lowest published price on this list.

**Cited pages reported.** Scrunch wins, with a Monitoring and Citations product built around the sources answers draw on. Otterly.AI lists link citation analysis, Peec AI reports sources, and Attensira records the cited pages on every answer and ranks the deciding sources.

**ChatGPT readable for free.** AthenaHQ wins: its free tier includes ChatGPT. Profound's free trial does too, for seven days.

**Consumer ChatGPT, sample size stated.** Attensira wins. Its documentation states that it reads the consumer surface people use, visiting chatgpt.com the way a person would, uses the API only as a labelled fallback, records which surface produced every run and never averages the two, and computes every rate over runs with the number behind it.

### Why does the consumer surface matter?

Because it is what your buyers see. ChatGPT in a browser can search the web, cite pages and show product listings; a raw API call may not behave the same way. A tool that reads the API is measuring something close to, but not the same as, the answer a buyer gets. Neither is wrong, but they should not be mixed. Ask any vendor which one it reads and whether it labels the difference.

### What should you do with what you find?

The tracker shows the gap. Closing it means working on the pages ChatGPT cites. Check which pages it links for your most important questions. If one of yours should be cited and is not, the page usually needs a direct answer near the top, clear facts in text, and to be reachable by OpenAI's crawlers. If the cited pages are comparison articles, reviews or forum threads, the work is getting onto them, honestly.

That is the work Attensira's crew does. For each question you lose in ChatGPT, it reads the cited pages, rewrites your own page where that would help, as a draft pull request or a CMS draft, drafts a pitch to the author of a cited article into your mailbox, and drafts a reply to a cited thread for you to post. Each piece waits for your approval. After a change ships, the question is read again at +7, +14 and +30 days and compared with the week before.

### Can OpenAI's crawlers read your pages?

Before any tracking means much, check access. OpenAI runs separate crawlers for separate jobs: one that collects pages for training, one that indexes pages for ChatGPT's search, and one that fetches a page live when a user asks. Blocking the training crawler is a business decision many sites make. Blocking the search crawler or the live fetcher by accident means ChatGPT cannot cite you at all, however good the page is.

Look at your robots.txt for each of them by name, and check your CDN or firewall rules too, because a bot-protection setting can block a crawler that robots.txt allows. Our free crawler URL inspector fetches a page as each AI crawler and shows the robots.txt verdict, the real response, and how much of the page survives without JavaScript, which matters because AI crawlers generally do not run it.

### What do wrong facts in ChatGPT answers look like?

They are usually small and specific. An old price, a plan you retired, a feature described as missing that you shipped months ago, a competitor's limitation attributed to you. They come from somewhere: an old blog post, a review written a year ago, a comparison page that was never updated, sometimes your own outdated page.

Fixing one starts with finding the source. Read the answer, look at the pages it cites, and find the one that says the wrong thing. If it is yours, correct it and say the right thing plainly near the top. If it is someone else's, ask its author to update it, with the evidence. Then watch the answers over the following weeks. Attensira tracks claims about you across answers and files the correction as work, a page fix or a pitch, for your approval.

### How many answers before a change means something?

More than one, and usually more than a week's worth. If a question is read once a day on ChatGPT, a week gives seven answers. Being named in three of seven one week and five of seven the next could be a real improvement or chance. Tools that show a rate without its sample size invite you to read meaning into noise.

Attensira's approach is explicit. Every rate shows the number of answers behind it. Starter samples each question once per reading; Growth and above take three samples at once, which separates real movement from chance sooner. A change is called a change only when it clears a significance test; otherwise it is reported as no change or too close to call. Ask any tool how it decides.

### Should you track ChatGPT in more than one country?

If you sell in more than one country, yes. ChatGPT's answers can differ by location, because the pages it searches and the products it knows differ by market. A buyer in Germany asking in German may be shown a different shortlist from a buyer in the UK. Attensira reads ChatGPT from a browser in each market you add, up to five per workspace, in the 42 countries it can read locally, and labels any reading it could not locate rather than mixing it in. Check how each tool on this list handles countries before you compare their numbers across markets.

### Which tool fits which team?

**Small team, small budget.** Otterly.AI from Lite, or AthenaHQ's free tier to start.

**Team that wants to see the sources.** Scrunch, or Peec AI for analytics-first reports.

**Enterprise, including shopping answers.** Profound on Enterprise.

**Team already on Ahrefs.** Brand Radar, for ChatGPT research beside its SEO data.

**Team that wants ChatGPT as buyers see it, and the work done.** Attensira.

### How should you set up ChatGPT tracking?

Choose twenty questions a buyer asks before choosing a product like yours. Track them daily. Watch three numbers per question: how often you are named, how often your pages are cited, and who is named instead. Read the full answers weekly, not only the rates, and note any wrong facts about you. When you change a page, note the date, so you can compare the weeks before and after with the sample size beside each figure.

### How was this list made?

Seven tools were shortlisted because their own pages list ChatGPT among the engines they read. Every cell was read from the vendor's own page on 4 October 2026 and links to it below. How ChatGPT chooses sources is covered on our ChatGPT engine page; this list compares the tools. No vendor was contacted, and a cell says unknown where the page does not say. Attensira is our product and wins one of the four criteria.

### When is Attensira the wrong pick?

When you want the cheapest ChatGPT tracking, Otterly.AI costs less. When you want to start free, AthenaHQ and Profound let you. When you only need to know whether ChatGPT names you, a free checker answers that in minutes. Attensira is for the team that wants ChatGPT read the way buyers see it and the work done to change what it says, the service of an SEO agency at the price of a tool.

If you are not sure where you stand, start with the free audit: it asks ChatGPT and three other engines eight buying questions about your category and shows who they name instead of you.

## FAQ

### What is the best tool for tracking ChatGPT citations?

Otterly.AI for ChatGPT at the lowest published price, Scrunch for the cited pages behind answers, AthenaHQ for reading ChatGPT on a free tier, and Profound or Ahrefs Brand Radar for depth. Attensira reads chatgpt.com as buyers see it, states the sample size on every rate, and does the work to get you cited.

### Is a ChatGPT mention the same as a citation?

No. A mention is your brand named in the answer text. A citation is a link to a page as a source. You can be named without being linked, or have your page cited while a competitor is named. Track both, and look at which pages are cited when you are not named, because they decide the answer.

### Why do ChatGPT answers about my brand keep changing?

Because each answer is a fresh draw. ChatGPT itself said so on 3 October 2026, in an answer to "check if ChatGPT mentions my brand", noting that a single query is not a reliable measure because answers vary between runs. Rates over many answers, with the sample size shown, are what you can act on.

### Does it matter whether a tool reads chatgpt.com or the API?

It can. The consumer product and the API do not always answer the same way, and the consumer product is what buyers use. Attensira reads the consumer surface first, uses the API only as a labelled fallback, and never averages the two.

### Where is how ChatGPT picks its sources explained?

On our ChatGPT engine page, which covers how ChatGPT search chooses and cites sources. This page compares the tools that track it.

## Sources

Each entry below is one claim on this page. `retrieved` is the date the exporter or a human last saw the source say this, and nothing more: it is not a publication date and not a promise of re-verification. `cite` is the anchor on the canonical page where this claim is rendered.
