**In short:** When you want content shipped rather than scored, the alternatives to Surfer, Clearscope, MarketMuse and Frase are Attensira, whose agents write, fix existing pages, pitch cited sources and deliver drafts to your CMS, Relixir's autonomous GEO agent, Writesonic for articles plus tracking, and AthenaHQ or Profound for agent-assisted content work.

## Which pages do AI engines cite for a tool that ships the fixes?

New vendors' own sites, mostly on ChatGPT, plus research papers and GitHub. None of the content optimizers on this page is among them, and no attensira.com page is cited yet.

### What do AI engines answer when you ask for a tool that ships the fixes?

We track "AI visibility tool that implements fixes automatically" in our own workspace, on ChatGPT and Perplexity every day, because it is close to the question this page answers. Perplexity's answer of 4 October says such a tool "exists in concept", most tools monitor and suggest, and end-to-end fixing is "rare and often limited". It names no tool at all.

The optimizers do appear when the question is about answer engine optimization tools. The answer at the top of this page is Perplexity's from 2 October to "best answer engine optimization tools": Frase is listed first, and Surfer's AI Tracker sits among the trackers, both filed under visibility and tracking rather than under doing the work.

ChatGPT, asked the same question, names new vendors such as Orbitr, Kloovy, Openlink and IndexMind, citing their own sites. Across the month, no answer on either engine named Surfer, Clearscope or MarketMuse, Frase appeared only as a cited article, and none named Attensira.

That tells you two things. The category of tools that do the work, rather than score it, is recognised by the engines, and it is crowded with new names nobody has ranked yet. And being the right answer is not the same as being the named answer. We show our own miss here because closing that gap, for a customer's brand, is what our crew does, and it starts with seeing the gap plainly.

### How settled is this category in the answers?

Not at all. No established tool is named in more than a handful of answers, and ChatGPT builds its answer from new vendors' own pages. The engines know the category exists; they have not decided who leads it.

### What do content optimizers do well?

They make a writer better. Surfer's editor shows which topics a strong page covers and scores the draft as it grows. Clearscope does the same with a famously clean interface and tracked queries. MarketMuse adds content inventory and topic planning, for deciding what to write across a whole site. Frase combines research, writing and optimization, and its agent can now publish. For a team with writers, these tools raise the floor of every page.

They have adapted to AI search sensibly. Surfer and Clearscope track how AI answers mention you, and their guidance leans towards the clear, well-structured pages that engines like to quote.

### Where do they stop?

At the edge of the editor. A content optimizer assumes a person will write, a person will publish, a person will update the older pages, and a person will try to get the brand onto the comparison articles and forum threads that AI answers cite. For a team with a content lead and two writers, that is fine. For a founder-led company, or a marketing team of one, those people do not exist, and the optimizer's suggestions wait.

AI answers make the gap wider. An answer to "best X for Y" is usually assembled from a few third-party pages. Writing a better page on your own site helps, but it often is not what decides the answer. Getting onto the pages that do is outreach, and no content optimizer does outreach.

### Which alternative suits which team?

**A team that wants articles produced in volume.** Writesonic writes a set number of AI articles a month and tracks AI answers in the same tool. Frase's agent writes and can publish to your CMS.

**A team that wants AI answer data to drive content.** AthenaHQ's content optimization agent works from what the answers say, with on-page and off-page actions. Profound's AI Marketer runs reusable agents for research, writing and reporting, aimed by deep answer data.

**A team that wants an agent to run on its own.** Relixir's Rex is built for autonomy: content generation with schema, CMS-wide refreshes on a cycle and backlink outreach, connected to your stack. It suits teams comfortable letting an agent act with less review per change.

**A team that wants the whole job done, and to approve each piece.** Attensira's crew writes new pages, rewrites existing ones, pitches the authors of cited pages, drafts replies to cited threads, and delivers each piece as a draft for your yes.

### How does Attensira turn a content gap into shipped work?

Take a tracked question: "which invoicing tools handle VAT for freelancers?". The answers name three competitors and cite two comparison articles and a subreddit thread. The crew turns that into work.

The Researcher reads the cited pages and your own, and finds that your VAT page exists but never says plainly that it handles freelancers. The Writer drafts a rewrite of that page's opening, a direct answer under a question heading, and it arrives as a draft pull request on GitHub or a draft in Webflow, WordPress, Shopify or Notion. The Outreach agent drafts a short note to one comparison article's author explaining why your tool belongs on the list, to send from your own mailbox. The Community agent drafts a reply to the thread, for you to post from your account; Attensira never posts to a community itself.

You approve, edit or decline each piece. Anything that states a price, a number or a competitor's name always waits for you. Once a change is live, the question is read again at +7, +14 and +30 days and compared with the week before, and the result carries the number of answers behind it.

### How does the cost compare?

Content optimizers price per seat, per document or per tracked query: Surfer from $49 a month billed yearly for Discovery, Clearscope from $129 a month, Frase from $39 a month billed yearly; MarketMuse has a free plan and quotes paid plans after a demo. Those prices buy guidance; the writing is paid for separately, in salaries or freelance fees.

Attensira prices the work itself. A plan covers monitoring and includes credits for agent work, and you set a monthly budget that caps what the work can cost. The pricing page shows the budget as the work it buys, in articles, page fixes and outreach pitches, and work not delivered is not charged.

### What makes a page get cited in an AI answer?

No vendor can promise it, but the patterns in what engines quote are consistent. A page gets cited when it answers one question directly near the top, in a sentence a model can lift whole; when it states the facts a buyer needs, prices, limits, who it is for, in plain words rather than images or scripts; when it is structured, with question-shaped headings and structured data that says what the page is; and when other pages the engine trusts link to it or repeat it.

Content optimizers are strong on the second and third. The first needs editorial judgement about the exact question. The fourth is off-site work. A crew that writes the page, rewrites its opening into a direct answer, adds the structured data and then goes after the pages that should reference it is covering all four, which is why the work matters more than the score.

### How should a small team split the work?

If you have one marketer and no writer, be strict. Spend the marketer's hours on the decisions only they can make: which questions matter, what the company will and will not claim, which drafts are good enough to ship. Hand the production to something else, a freelancer, an agency or a crew of agents, and measure it on shipped pages, not on scores.

If you have writers, give them an optimizer for the pages they write and point them at the questions that matter most. Hand the rest, the rewrites of old pages, the outreach and the forum replies, to whatever does it reliably. Most content programmes fail at the second half, not the first.

### What changes after the first month?

The first month is mostly catching up: the backlog of pages that should answer buyers' questions and do not, and the cited sources you are missing from. After that the work becomes routine. Each week the answers shift a little, a new comparison page starts being cited, a thread picks up, a competitor publishes. Attensira's crew reads every day and files the work that follows from what changed, so the programme keeps up without anyone having to remember to look.

### Should you keep your optimizer?

If you have writers who like it, yes. Attensira does not replace a writer's editor, and some teams will keep both: the optimizer for pages their own people write, Attensira for the work nobody had time for, including everything off the site.

### What should you check before you choose?

Write down the five questions you most want to be named for. For each tool, ask three things. What does it produce for each question: a score, a brief, a draft, or a change on your site? Who carries that output the rest of the way? And how will you know, a month later, whether it changed the answers? A tool that cannot answer the third question leaves you guessing about the first two.

### How was this list made?

Every price, plan and capability was read from the vendor's own page on 4 October 2026 and is linked below. MarketMuse and Relixir publish no prices, and we say so. No vendor was contacted. The readout comes from our own tracked prompt, read through the Attensira MCP for the attensira.com workspace. The order follows the rule stated at the top: how much of the job each vendor's own pages say it carries without your team, with a published price breaking a tie. Attensira is our product, and its entry says where it falls short.

### When is Attensira the wrong choice?

When your writers want a live score while they write: that is what Surfer and Clearscope are for. When you want an agent to act with no review step at all: Attensira always brings claims to you. When you need to plan content across thousands of existing pages: MarketMuse's inventory tools are built for that. Attensira is for the team that knows content wins AI answers and has nobody free to write it, ship it and place it.

## FAQ

### What is the best alternative to Surfer or Clearscope when nobody has time to write?

A tool that does the writing and gets it onto your site. Frase's agent writes and can publish when you let it; Writesonic produces a set number of articles a month; Attensira's crew writes new pages, rewrites existing ones, pitches the pages AI answers cite and delivers each piece as a draft in your CMS or a pull request for your approval.

### Do content optimizers help with AI search?

Yes, as guides. They help a writer cover a topic well, and Surfer and Clearscope now track AI visibility too. They do not write and publish the page, fix older pages, or earn placements on third-party pages, which is where many AI answers are decided.

### How much do Surfer, Clearscope and MarketMuse cost?

On their pages on 4 October 2026, Surfer Discovery was $49 a month billed yearly and its AI Search Analytics plan $82; Clearscope Essentials $129 a month; MarketMuse had a free plan and paid plans by demo. Frase Starter was $39 a month billed yearly.

### Will Attensira publish content without my approval?

Not unless you choose that. Workspaces start in Draft mode, where nothing leaves the workspace until you approve it. Anything that states a claim, a price, a number or a competitor name, waits for your yes in every mode, and community replies are always drafted for you to post yourself.

### Why does this page say ChatGPT did not name Attensira?

Because it did not. Asked on 3 October 2026 for an AI visibility tool that implements fixes automatically, ChatGPT named Orbitr, Kloovy, Openlink, IndexMind and 99visibility. Getting named for that question is work our crew does for customers, and we measure it on ourselves the same way.
